The Knoxville VA Outpatient Clinic is a community-based replacement facility that serves veterans. The existing government complex that previously housed the clinic was difficult to access; the VA purchased new land where they built the freestanding facility. Working with VA project staff, the design translates programmatic and technical requirements of the VA facility guidelines to a building that uniquely suits the user agency with clinic exam rooms and a small physical therapy area.
The facility provides space that meets contemporary standards of care while being a secure environment for patients, staff, and caregivers. Considering sustainability, the design includes high-efficiency mechanical systems for low energy consumption and uses sustainable and recycled building materials. The resulting building meets and has been awarded a LEED Silver healthcare certification.
