Winneshiek Medical Center partnered with Wold Architects and Engineers for their Master Facilities planning efforts and continued with the team to build the plan.
As the second largest Critical Access Hospital in Iowa, it was essential that all outpatient services be evaluated for utilization, operational efficiency, and ease of patient access. Wold interviewed leadership and staff to understand all current and projected service lines Winneshiek Medical Center needed to serve their community. Wold engaged community input, through a data/consensus, facilitated a Lean 3P event, and tested multiple options through an A3 process. This information was integrated into a planning model that studied current and future capacity needs based on community volume demand. Many options were studied to determine the best course of action for growth and flexibility for this campus. The capacity study was then translated into a facility master plan that will be a roadmap for Winneshiek Medical Center to guide their operational and facility investments for the next 5-10 years.
The facility master plan created a more efficient Hospital, designated outpatient area, updated Mother Baby, and Surgery center expansion. The design focuses on the future of patient care, including flexible spaces, “Disney” on/off stage planning, technology-driven registration/scheduling, and sustainable products to allow for more efficient operations.
