Northwest Medical Center Houghton

The Northwest Healthcare System recognized a need to expand on the services they offered, specifically additional space in the form of an acute-care hospital. Northwest partnered with Wold | HFR to create a short term care unit that provided additional services to residents in the eastern portion of Tucson, Arizona.

Northwest Medical Center – Houghton is a new 70-bed, acute-care hospital in the southeastern portion of Tucson, Arizona. The hospital is a separately licensed, but affiliated, hospital of the Northwest Healthcare System and serves as an anchor facility for a larger, master-planned, multi-use development. With over 180,000 sf, the new medical center brings both inpatient and outpatient healthcare services to a currently under-served area. These services include inpatient med/surg and ICU beds, an emergency department, obstetrical services, surgical services, cardiovascular services, laboratory testing, and radiology services.

The new acute-care center is expected to cause a positive medical and economic impact in eastern Tucson with this new health and wellness development. Due to the anticipated growth in the area it serves, the building is designed for additional expansion to increase bed capacity to 126 beds and double the surgical and cardiovascular capacity in the future. The acute-care hospital is set to be completed in late 2021.
