Dane County Clerk's Office and Elections Center

Wold was initially engaged by Dane County to complete a space needs study for the Clerk’s Office focused on creating a secure elections storage facility. Following the study, Wold continued assisting the County in evaluating existing warehouses for adaptive reuse.

The resulting project repurposes a 65,000-square-foot former brewery and warehouse into the new Dane County Clerk’s Office and Elections Center. The facility will also include space for the City of Madison’s election operations. After touring comparable facilities in other counties, Wold and the County refined the program to support efficient storage, loading, and deployment of election materials.

The design includes a climate-controlled mezzanine for sensitive equipment and ballot storage, flexible multipurpose rooms for training and recounts, and space for mail room functions such as absentee ballot processing, with future provisions for ballot printing. Sustainability upgrades include a geothermal heating and cooling system and improved rooftop solar panels.
