Trailhead Learning Center

The Yankton School District in South Dakota has opened the Trailhead Learning Center, a new early childhood through kindergarten facility designed by Wold and Koch-Hazard Architects and constructed by McGough as the first step in the District's master plan facilitated by Wold. The addition of this facility allows the District to centralize preschool through kindergarten programming and accommodate a growing enrollment. Classrooms are organized around shared learning studios that encourage collaboration, exploration, and hands-on play.

Scaled to young learners, the design incorporates tactile materials and flexible areas for dramatic play, sensory activities, and group learning. The facility also includes early childhood special education, a media center, a maker space and music room, with the cafeteria and gym available for community use after school hours. Master planned for future expansion, the Trailhead Learning Center will continue to grow alongside the District’s needs.
