Wold Architects and Engineers was hired by Redwood County in 2016 to assess the needs of the 5th Judicial District located in Redwood County.
This assessment included determining how much and which departments should be located in a new Judicial Facility. It was determined that a new secure courts facility should be built that included space for Court Administration, Judges and Courts, County Attorney and Child Support. The project includes one larger jury courtroom approximately 1,800 square feet in size, one smaller hearing room around 900 square feet in size. Also included in the 20,000 square foot building is space for Court Administration, Judges Chambers, Jury Assembly and Jury Deliberation spaces. Office space is also included for the County Attorney and Child Support Staff.
It was important in the design to develop spaces where attorneys could meet with clients in an open and secure lobby space with smaller conference rooms and breakout spaces for collaboration. This secure lobby is staffed by law enforcement staff and all public is screened for weapons prior to entering the building. Also of importance was to create a secure link between the adjacent jail and the courtrooms and a secure holding area was included near the courtrooms.
