Wold teamed with RATIO, to deliver the design and documentation for this signature project on the City of Evansville’s riverfront. The expansion added more than 10,000 square feet to the existing 55,000-square-foot Evansville Museum of Arts, History and Science and introduced a dramatic new atrium entrance and gathering space, along with a high-tech 360-degree immersive theater and planetarium that became the defining feature of the design.
The expanded museum incorporated leading-edge digital presentation and interactive media technology, with key immersive theater components imported from Europe. The project also included new exhibit areas, educational spaces, a museum store, and additional office space for curators and staff. As part of the renovation, the former third-floor planetarium was transformed into a radial board room with an oculus skylight. The completed expansion contributed to the continued revitalization of downtown Evansville and added a distinctive new landmark to the city’s riverfront.
