South Baldwin Regional Medical Center Freestanding Emergency Department

The South Baldwin Regional Medical Center Freestanding Emergency Department is adjacent to Jack Edwards Airport off Highway 59 in Gulf Shores, Alabama. This location will expand access to emergency services to meet the growing community's needs and provide faster access for people south of the main hospital campus in Gulf Shores, Fort Morgan and Orange Beach.

The 14,400 square-feet freestanding emergency department will provide services 24-hours a day, seven days a week to patients who experience medical emergencies. The department will feature nine private patient rooms, a trauma room, decontamination and isolation room, on-site lab and blood bank services. It will also include diagnostic and imaging services such as CT, MRI, Ultrasound, X-Ray, Mammogram and DEXA Scan. The new space will allow emergency services to be effectively managed without a typical hospital setting. Like any hospital emergency department, the new South Baldwin Regional Medical Center Freestanding Emergency Department will be equipped to treat patients with illnesses and injuries. This includes severe chest pain, severe allergic reaction, severe respiratory distress, broken bones, cuts requiring stitches, concussions and other conditions that require a higher level of care than urgent care facilities offer.

Also included in the design is a helipad sized for coast guard landings and an EMS sleep area. These design features allow patients to be transported quickly to the main hospital via ambulance or helicopter if a higher level of care is required. Construction started in July 2020, and the new space is anticipated to open in Summer 2021.
