Maury Regional MC Emergency Dept

Maury Regional Medical Center Emergency Department

Maury Regional Health experienced rapid growth due to the large influx of people relocating to the middle Tennessee region. Maury partnered with Wold to study emergency department patient volumes as part of a larger strategic planning effort and overall master plan focused on addressing bottlenecks in the emergency department triage process and expanding their treatment capabilities for behavioral health patient populations.

The team worked closely with emergency department staff, leaders, and physicians to develop a new vertical treatment area, expand triage, improve security and sight lines within the public zone, and expand the behavioral treatment area. The behavioral area presented a unique challenge in that the new location was across a public corridor, so the team developed a solution incorporating revised procedures and security lockdown protocols to temporarily secure the public corridor entrances and allow safe transport of patients across the zone while maintaining public safety at all times.

Additionally, entrance points were reconfigured to better handle behavioral health patient assessment, convalescent patient transport, and emergency department walk-in traffic.
