The Geological Sciences Building at Indiana University houses the Geological and Cognitive Sciences departments as well as the Indiana Geological and Water Survey. This renovation united both entities under one roof, providing shared amenities such as conference and teaching spaces, organized around the east elevator core, and introduced student-focused community spaces on each floor.
Outdated labs were transformed into state-of-the-art research and teaching environments, featuring flexible open layouts with both fixed and movable bench systems and overhead service carriers for multi-discipline use. Non-lab areas were designed as collaborative student spaces to encourage interaction outside the classroom. The project also included complete building system upgrades, energy-efficient HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems, updated lab services, improved ADA accessibility with a new entry terrace, upgraded exterior windows, and enhanced site landscaping.
