Huerfano Secondary School Replacement

Our team is excited to see the new 56,000-square-foot Walsenburg Junior Senior High School come to life! The Huerfano School District Re-1 hired Wold to reimagine the original 1970s John Mall High School into a new and inspiring home for The Pride of the Panthers. The original building faced critical structural concerns and needed to be updated to better align with the school’s rich performing arts and Career and Technical Education programs.

Once completed, the new three-story school will serve grades 7-12 and be the largest and tallest building in town. Additionally, the building was turned to face the mountains to further emphasize the design which thoughtfully pays homage to the Spanish Peaks for which the area is known and includes new outdoor recreational and instructional areas. The Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) grant-funded school is currently on track to reach completion in time for the spring 2024 semester.
