The Galesburg Knox County 911 Center transformed a portion of the County's former jail into a modern, purpose-built facility designed to support both emergency operations and the people behind every call. After completing a space needs assessment and feasibility study, Wold recommended adaptive reuse as the best long-term solution, replacing an outdated dispatch space within the police station that lacked natural daylight, privacy, and dedicated support areas. The new communications center enhances workflow while creating a healthier, more functional environment for dispatchers who work around the clock in one of public safety's most demanding roles.
Designed with employee wellbeing and operational performance in mind, the facility features ergonomic workstations, improved acoustics, access to natural daylight, calming interior finishes, and dedicated spaces for training, collaboration, breaks, and decompression. Every design decision balanced staff experience with responsible stewardship of public resources, creating a high-performing workplace that supports recruitment, retention, and long-term service to the community. By investing in both people and performance, Galesburg/Knox County now has a resilient emergency communications center built to serve its staff and residents for years to come.
