Swift County Courthouse

Wold Architects and Engineers was hired to renovate the Historic Swift County Courthouse.

Originally dedicated in 1898, the structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places needed restoration and interior renovation to facilitate modern county government and court operations. Besides updating operations and customer service, adding security features, and restoring the building's historic exterior envelope, the project's significant focus was to modernize the mechanical systems serving the building to be more efficient in heating and cooling the building. The upper level of the building, which had previously been gutted in the 1960's to create a poorly functioning courts facility, was overhauled to create a place for modern, safe and functional court operations. A large trial courtroom and a smaller hearing room each incorporate original historic millwork as an homage to the lost original courtroom. The main level of the building unified historically independent departments into one space with one consolidated customer service counter to allow staff to come to the citizen instead of giving the citizen the run-around while interacting with the county.
