Madelia Health’s vision is to be the premier rural health system in Southern Minnesota. In 2020, Madelia Health engaged Wold Architects and Engineers to assist with their Master Facilities Planning to visualize organizational growth and provide patient-centered care for Watonwan County and beyond.
Wold shares Madelia Health’s belief that the best environment stems from collaboration among patients, physicians, healthcare professionals, and the greater community. Open and honest communication, respect for personal and professional values, and sensitivity to differences are integral to optimal patient care and care environment. Our Wold team worked collaboratively with the organization and community stakeholders to gather information and pertinent data through various means, such as community meetings, digital surveys, and one-on-one departmental interviews. We produced a Facility Master Plan that allows Madelia Health to grow for the next ten years while remaining as the Top 20 Critical Access Hospital in the category of Patient Satisfaction.
"Wold demonstrates a rare combination of design excellence, community commitment, and future-focused thinking. Their work reflects both depth and breadth—from rural healthcare facilities to broader civic projects—each one underscoring their commitment to meaningful, human-centered environments. These are not just buildings, but places that promote healing, connection, and resilience. Their collaborative process is rooted in respect—for tradition, for community voice, and for architectural innovation. The team consistently works across disciplines and with stakeholders to create designs that are not only technically and aesthetically exceptional, but deeply responsive to place and purpose.”
