Indiana University Medical Research and Library Building West Wing Renovation

This five-floor renovation for Indiana University School of Medicine’s Medical and Molecular Genetics department reimagined the space with a focus on recruitment and the new medical education curriculum. The design brings multiple disciplines together to encourage collaboration, mentoring, and knowledge sharing while updating the facility to current research standards.

The first floor includes offices for faculty, researchers, and staff, as well as a large student study space with clerestory windows that provide shared daylighting throughout each suite. Floors two through five feature flexible, state-of-the-art research labs organized in 500-square-foot modules with linear peninsula benches and 250-square-foot support modules. Additional shared research spaces include cold rooms, microscopy rooms, negative-80-degree freezer rooms, glass wash, and autoclaves. Each floor also incorporates collaboration and break spaces. The project achieved LEED Gold certification, reflecting its commitment to sustainability and high-performance design.
