Franklin Hall, one of the most recognized collegiate Gothic buildings on the Indiana University Bloomington campus, was fully renovated to become the home of the IU Media School. Historically the campus library, the building now brings together the School of Journalism, the Department of Communication and Culture, and the Department of Telecommunications within one unified academic environment.
Because Franklin Hall had undergone several additions over time, a primary goal of the renovation was to create a central gathering space that connects the various departments. This was achieved through the creation of a multi-level atrium at the heart of the building, featuring open balconies, soft seating, and a large digital display that serves as a focal point for students and visitors. The Media School also includes a broadcast studio, film screening room, tiered lecture hall, active learning classrooms, a gaming development suite, computer labs, and editing bays. Together, these spaces provide the technology, flexibility, and collaboration opportunities needed to support the evolving field of media.
