Indiana University Collins Living-Learning Center Renovation

The Collins Living-Learning Center at Indiana University is a historic collegiate Gothic residential community known for its limestone façade and rich interior wood detailing. This renovation focused on introducing ADA accessibility and air conditioning while upgrading key spaces and building systems across Smith, Edmondson, and Cravens Halls. Improvements included updates to food service areas, student rooms, restrooms, offices, classrooms, and core building infrastructure.

Edmondson Hall, the central building in the complex, anchors the community around a shared green and houses student services, classrooms, a library, dining hall, lounges, and student rooms. A new elevator was carefully integrated into the central circulation core to improve accessibility, and student spaces were reorganized to take full advantage of the improvements. Food service was redesigned with a new servery adjacent to the dining hall, allowing the space to function as a flexible, multi-use area for dining, gatherings, and classroom activities. Preserving the historic character of the original 1924 and 1940 buildings while integrating modern systems was central to the success of the project.
