The Indiana Memorial Union (IMU), a centerpiece of the Bloomington campus for over a century, underwent a renovation to enhance dining, entertainment, and circulation throughout the building. A detailed study of the IMU’s historic features guided the design of eight new foodservice concepts and adjacent dining rooms on the lobby and main levels, seamlessly integrating the 1932 building with the 1960 hotel addition.
The renovation opened spaces previously segmented by structural columns and improved circulation through clearly defined nodes connecting key areas. New dining venues offer distinct menus while embracing the historic character of the IMU. The project also includes two entertainment spaces with stages, flexible seating, and a full-service pub, creating a vibrant environment for students, staff, and visitors.
