The thoughtful design of the Prairie View E-8 School intends to remain flexible for the future and to support the ongoing student population growth and long-term district plan. Keeping the future in mind, the design considers future expansion and potential conversion into either a dedicated middle school or a dedicated elementary school as the district grows. Flexibility for the future is essential to the design, which incorporates a core that encourages multiple uses, a technology-oriented flex space that serves both the media center and cafeteria, and a band room that acts as a stage for the gym and cafeteria.
While the school is serving both middle and elementary schoolers, the learning areas for each age range have a degree of separation, but remain convertible to support any curriculum. Boundaries between these learning areas are flexible and encourage the open ambience of the school. The materials and finishes speak to the intended longevity of the school, focusing on durability and maintainability.
