Crosby Elementary

The design of the 1000-student PK-3 school required special attention to creating supportive educational environments. The solution is an approachable, child-friendly scale that gives students a sense of identity, place, and differentiation in the midst of a large school population. Four academic neighborhoods provide independent learning environments and controlled team areas connected via dedicated color schemes and patterns, making wayfinding easy for young students. Integrated technology supports science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) programming through a flexible, well-equipped Discovery Center in each neighborhood. A centrally located learning commons emphasizes the role of reading and research in education with an intimate story area featuring tiered seating.

The exterior’s visual theme generates a strong tie to the surrounding residential neighborhood, and the facility incorporates a high degree of community access for after hours use.
