Cottage Grove Public Safety and City Hall

In 2010, the City hired Wold Architects and Engineers to conduct a master plan for a municipal campus that would include the public safety/city hall and a future community center or library on a site adjacent to Ravine Park. This site was chosen as it was centrally located when considering future expansion of the City. It was also felt that the location being adjacent to the park would enhance public usage through connections to trails, and the site included amenities such as benches and an amphitheater.

The design of the facility needed to address deficiencies at the old city hall and police station. The new facility provides access to police through an open and inviting lobby available 24 hours a day. The city hall lobby is open and transparent. It is a comfortable place for visitors and staff with views to the adjacent park and amphitheater and allows the public to interact with staff at a single location. This lobby also acts as a pre-function space for the council chambers and training room. Office areas were also designed to allow daylight and views into all office areas and amenities, including a shared breakroom and fitness center. The training center also functions as an EOC and community room with an attached kitchen for public meetings.

The new facility uses the spacious and pastoral site to its advantage. Patios that overlook Ravine Park and the natural topography allow for a tuck-under garage for police vehicles while enabling quick access to Ravine Parkway and a safe location for staff parking.
