Village of Palatine Village Hall

Palatine, Illinois

Wold was hired by the Village of Palatine to assist in planning for renovation of Village Hall after the police department moved into a new facility. A primary objective of the Village Hall renovation was to create welcoming, intuitive environment for providing services to the community. The redesign of the main entry, lobby and service counters was a direct response to that criterion.

The existing floor plate was cutaway to create a two-story volume, thus creating visual connection between public circulation and service areas on the main and upper floor. The roof structure was also reconstructed to provide clerestory lighting to the atrium. The result was a space that draws visitors into the building and provides them with natural cues as to how to navigate the building. Adjacent to the public lobby are two meeting rooms available for the community to reserve for meetings and events. The main entrance doors and meeting room doors are all equipped with access control systems that allow for rooms to be unlocked based on a specific reservation schedule, while the rest of the building remains secured.
