Wold was commissioned to study the feasibility of creating a new Technology Skills Center for the NIU College of Law, and was then retained to further develop the concept of changing an old music suite and art gallery into a state-of-the-art electronic courtroom and classroom. The 2,750 SF Skills Center allows for different courtroom scenarios, including mediation and hearings, and includes a moveable judge’s bench and witness stand for courtroom arrangement flexibility. State-of-the-art technology included a video and sound control room, flat screen monitors, document/evidence cameras, video conference capabilities, and real time translation systems. The Smart Classroom features the following:

  • Moveable tables with electrical data connections
  • Internet connection to support distance learning
  • Smart Podiums
