Minnesota DNR and Regional Services Center

State of Minnesota

Located on a densely wooded site overlooking the Mississippi River, this facility was designed to enhance its natural setting while minimizing ecological impact. The office building houses the regional headquarters for the Department of Natural Resources in one section and the Regional Service Center for state agencies in an adjacent section. The two are joined by a common entry with the most publicly used offices located near the public entry.

A strong linear circulation pattern provides the most democratic view of the river for all occupants as they move through the building. This plan also allows for easy future expansion. Also located on the 20 acre site are warehouse spaces, storage, vehicle maintenance and a wood burning heat plant carefully sited to preserve mature forests while screening parking and utilitarian facilities.

Wold Architects and Engineers provided full service including site selection and master planning, programming, and design. The building is a MSAIA Honor Award Winner.
