Benedict House is a free standing memory care assisted living environment on the Madonna Living Communitycampus in Rochester,MN. It is designed as a large house to blend in with the surrounding neighborhood, and present a familiar home feel to prospective residents and their families. The two
eight-resident households are back to back for staffing efficiency and program sharing; creating a residential scale and feel was paramount. The residential scale of design and open floor plan allows the residents to see and access all of the activity upon leaving their rooms, and is also reflected in the size, scale and composition of the materials and spaces. Clerestory windows bring in natural light to the heart of the living spaces. Food is brought over from the main kitchen and served restaurant style. Because of the nature of the Alzheimer’s disease, the household kitchens are equipped to cook food as well at any time.
