The Dakota County Northern Service Center is an office building that places essential public services closer to where the population lives and works, consolidating Dakota County’s community services departments and the Minnesota workforce center in an easily accessible location. The three-story lobby and a large public gathering room defines entry into the building and orients visitors to user-friendly public service counters, a workforce center, a conference center, and an office tower. Daylighting, breakrooms, and wellness spaces enhance the work environment for the near 600 employees of the county. Easy public parking with separated staff lots, native grass areas, and walking paths through the indigenous landscape ensure the easy navigation for all facility users. The design considers high-performance building standards and sustainability by utilizing roof and wall insulations, high-efficiency condensing boiler, regulated ventilation, lighting sensors. These standards qualified the facility for an EPA Energy Star award.
